Homeschool Hatchery

Okay we really arent a Homeschool Hatchery. But it sure feels like it. We already had 47 hens. Our Heart and Home 4H group does embryology projects every year. We did one last year to start our chicken farm. But for fun we thought we do it again…that was the beginning of March.

First round: 36 eggs, all BUT 2 of them were duds..they hatched yesterday, cute as can be BUT THEY ARE ROOSTERS!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!! We dont want any roosters.
Second round:18 eggs, 6 were Banti eggs that we didnt even want to waste our time with so we didnt…..the other 12 were DUDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Third round: Well now that we are going on vacation, we were given 12 more to try. Luckily my friend Carol has offered to egg sit for us. They have to flipped twice a day to ensure proper baking. LOL!!
So thats it….hopefully in about 20 days we may have 12 more hens. But the day we get back we will be recieving 36 chicks in the mail. Always fun to pick those up at the post office, but not as fun as picking up a box of buzzing honey bees. 🙂

Homeschool Science Fair

Chloe, Blake and Camye just participated in our Annual Homeschool Science Fair.
Camye recieved a silver medal and her topic was Which brand of  Microwave Popcorn has the least amount of unpopped popcorn? Orville Redenbacher was the winner, but still averaged about 80-100 kernals per bag. I think we will stick to air popping our popcorn, we have average ZERO with our popcorn.

Blake recieved a Bronze medal and his topic was Does tempertature effect the growth of fungi?
Chloe recieved a Bronze medal and Best Of Class award and her topic was Do Middle School Boys or Middle School Girls have a faster reaction?

Daddy’s little Helper

We all have been working on our maple sugaring project lately, including the baby. He ran outside one morning to  help his dad…in his adorable little duckie jammies. I didnt bother to dress him, I just chased him with the camera.

They were collecting wood for the open fire we cooked our first batch of Maple Syrup on. It was really neat. Funny thing was, we were signed up for the Mingo Park Homeschool class on Maple Sugaring last Thursday, only we couldnt leave the house because we were tending to our own.LOL!!
oops..my shadow.

Sorry photographing friends…the sun was so bright. I hadnt a clue where to stand..and I didnt want to miss my shot.:):)

Such a sweetheart..always stopping to pose with Mommy.

BTW…we have tons and TONS of Maple Syrup!! I love it!!!

Fun Weekend in WV…

So I am a little behind on blogging…but I am going to try and play catch up for awhile. Last weekend we spent Friday- Monday at my parents in West Virginia. Visiting the usual, Mamaw Wells, Mamaw and Papaw Buck, my brothers and of course my wonderful parents…but my cousin Stephanie, her 2 kiddos Parker and Kinlee and my aunt Jo were visiting!! So we had lots of fun!!!!

Paul with a very dirty mac-n-cheese face!!!

Parker and Blake are exactly one month apart, they get along great!!! They had a sleepover on Sunday night that turned into a “no” sleep over…I guess that would be an “over”.
They both crashed for several hours the next day, this is where they slept.  They made a fort under my moms dining room table, the same place my 2 brothers and I used to make forts.
Kinlee and Camye are 11 months apart and they get along great!!!!!! It is always fun to have a cousin your age.:)
The kids love to be at my parents. They can get online with high speed internet. Webkinz will load occasionally but it is really a pain. Once in awhile they  do get one, but not as often. My hubby is working with Verizon so it will be available here..soon. I hope.:)

Thanksgiving Thursday

1 For Wednesday night bible study, last night Chloe did great on her speech, Chloe and Camye led their praise song in ladies class and we even squeezed in 2 puppet shows in my 6th-7th grade class (we are preparing for our J.A.M class on Sunday morning.

2. For the wonderful weekend we had with my cousin Stephanie (check her blog..I dont know how to put her link under her name, but she is the only other blonde on this page), my aunt JO, and 2 little cousins Parker and Kinlee. My kids had a great time and so did I. It is always so much fun to catch with them. Even though I think with our blogs, we knew so much more about each other this time, which just made for better conversation. My kids had a blast!!!

3. For spring, the days have been filled with spring activity this week. Kenny was able to get the garden tilled, and potatoes in. I hope to get some flowers planted today.

4. Lists!! Oh yes, my lists. My favorite thing to do. I must get it from my dad, when I was little I remember seeing his list in his handwriting with his check marks beside what he had accomplished. Strange I can remember that.:) He has the best handwriting.

5. The homeschooling conference ….it is Saturday. I am selling a ton of curriculum and hope to get everything we need for next year!!

6. My hubby and his hobbies:)

7. Our egg customers, I am very very thankful for our egg customers, just very very sad that I dont have enough and people are getting upset with me. I am not sure if people realize this…you can still buy organic eggs at the store…

8. Tammie Bairon- we co-teach 6th-8th grade history at co-op. It has been her turn for 3 weeks…and I am loving it!!! My turn is next week though.

9. My stocked fridge, I know alot of people are hurting right now because of the economy. If I knew of any I would invite them over, my fridge is overstocked at the moment.

10. I know I say this every week..but my mom. She is the most wonderful woman I know.:)
